Look out! It's some kind of... Avian Monstrosity! The Nuclear Eagle has landed at XGen! Try your hand at being the supreme atomic lord of the sky.

E3 is currently taking place in Santa Monica, California in it's more "industry-specific" form. Some great stuff has already hit the web; like a Killzone 2 trailer; now guaranteed to be real in-game footage, honestly... some appetizing Halo 3 Singleplayer Footage, and Video from Halo Wars; the RTS-offspring of the franchise. Mass Effect looks more incredible every time I see it.

Along with the eye candy comes the announcements: Mario Kart Wii in Q1 2008, Gears of War for PC, "Wii Fit" from Nintendo will get you in shape, and a new revision on the PSP!

Will It Blend tries to make an expensive "iPhone milkshake". Poor Apple fanboys everywhere shake their heads.

The X Prize Foundation Announced the 2007 Lunar Lander Competitors for the Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander Challenge today, and they have a bunch of video clips featuring some of the competing crafts and interviews with their designers. Among them is John Carmack of id Software (Creator of Doom and Quake), with his "hobby" company Armadillo Aerospace. His lander, the Pixel (video), could be set to win this year's competition.

Rotten Tomatoes is ticking down the top 100 science fiction movies of all time. Wicked stuff for geeks of all sorts.

We're settling into our new office space...

June 21, 2007

We're settling into our new office space this week with essentials such as original NES and Genesis 3 systems, custom XGen wall hangings and, of course, a coffee maker. I also learned never to forfeit Controller 1 to Danny in a 2-player game of Galaga 88 (Dan has seen level 225 in the arcade version, a 4-hour feat).

The fine folks at SUMO were also kind enough to donate a few of their gigantic, space-aged OMNI chairs for the team to work, play, nap, and generally lounge around on; Thanks SUMO!

June 15, 2007

It's been a frenetic week at XGen; the entire team has been busy painting, moving and assembling furniture, and climatizing to our new office space. There is still lots of work to do, and a lot more equipment (Plus a few toys...) yet to be moved in.

We've decided to share a few pictures of our new pad to let you in on the excitement. It wouldn't be XGen without the Helvian, or without display cases to feature our past and present CD Collections (Check out the wicked digital picture frames!). Skye's personal workspace is completed by a classy pre-installed light fixture (from the last tenant's boardroom).

We've also decided to try launching a News Post discussion thread for select threads in the news box; click the link below to post your thoughts/comments/questions about our new laboratory.

XGen is movin' on up! Over the next few weeks we'll be transitioning into our new headquarters in downtown Edmonton, Alberta! The new office space will give us a lot more room for creative collaboration and expansion, so expect to see some awesome stuff from us once we get our new pad primed.

If you've played Guitar Hero then you're a fan. So here's a look at the new versus mode that Activision is throwing into the mix for Guitar Hero 3. Don't like how your opponent has superior finger dexterity? Swap his keys around with a lefty flip attack or give him a "Broken Green Button" that must be mashed back into place. Very cool stuff.

Google launches Street View for their maps. Now you can see 360 degree views right from the streets of major US cities. Really cool technology for tourists and voyeurs alike.

Hype, hype, hype! Will it never end?...

May 15, 2007

Hype, hype, hype! Will it never end? With studios like Nintendo, Bethesda and Blizzard doing "countdown" teaser pages for upcoming games, you can count me in as a cog in the great hype machine, because these games are shaping up to be truly worthy. A curious countdown for a Super Smash Brother's Brawl website, perhaps to reveal a new character, or just to launch the snazzy new site? Bethesda is doing it broody and with mood: check out their Fallout 3 Teaser Countdown. Blizzard opens the floodgates of speculation with their teaser countdown; is it Starcraft 2? World of Starcraft? Another WoW expansion? Positively spine-tingling!

Question: What do you do with your old boring Roomba and a whole lot of free time? Answer: Hack it! Yep, your little Roomba can play Frogger, fire pellets from an air gun or even go caroling!

Everyone loves Mii. No really, nobody hates a Mii. Especially when they get so creative, here's a slideshow of some impressive Miis to brighten your day.

May 4, 2007

The Last Stand is a macabre zombie defense game that will test your aiming skills as well as your strategy, as you must spend your daylight hours in the most productive way possible in order to survive the nightly onslaught of undead foes. Search for weapons and survivors or spend time reinforcing your makeshift wall. The barricade is the only thing between you and an increasing frenzy of slavering brain-hungry masses, so defend it well.

Last Stand contains scenes of extreme violence and gore, and is recommended only for a mature audience.

Joost, the on-demand online video service backed by the founders of Skype, announced yesterday that current Beta testers will be given an unlimited number of invites. When I tried Joost today, it worked right out of the box; the video quality is good, framerates are smooth with no playback stutter, and the interface is slick. You can fish for an invite here, or here.
