We're settling into our new office space...
We're settling into our new office space this week with essentials such as original NES and Genesis 3 systems, custom XGen wall hangings and, of course, a coffee maker. I also learned never to forfeit Controller 1 to Danny in a 2-player game of Galaga 88 (Dan has seen level 225 in the arcade version, a 4-hour feat).
The fine folks at SUMO were also kind enough to donate a few of their gigantic, space-aged OMNI chairs for the team to work, play, nap, and generally lounge around on; Thanks SUMO!

It's been a frenetic week at XGen; the entire team has been busy painting, moving and assembling furniture, and climatizing to our new office space. There is still lots of work to do, and a lot more equipment (Plus a few toys...) yet to be moved in.
We've decided to share a few pictures of our new pad to let you in on the excitement. It wouldn't be XGen without the Helvian, or without display cases to feature our past and present CD Collections (Check out the wicked digital picture frames!). Skye's personal workspace is completed by a classy pre-installed light fixture (from the last tenant's boardroom).
We've also decided to try launching a News Post discussion thread for select threads in the news box; click the link below to post your thoughts/comments/questions about our new laboratory.

XGen is movin' on up! Over the next few weeks we'll be transitioning into our new headquarters in downtown Edmonton, Alberta! The new office space will give us a lot more room for creative collaboration and expansion, so expect to see some awesome stuff from us once we get our new pad primed.
If you've played Guitar Hero then you're a fan. So here's a look at the new versus mode that Activision is throwing into the mix for Guitar Hero 3. Don't like how your opponent has superior finger dexterity? Swap his keys around with a lefty flip attack or give him a "Broken Green Button" that must be mashed back into place. Very cool stuff.
Google launches Street View for their maps. Now you can see 360 degree views right from the streets of major US cities. Really cool technology for tourists and voyeurs alike.

Hype, hype, hype! Will it never end?...
Hype, hype, hype! Will it never end? With studios like Nintendo, Bethesda and Blizzard doing "countdown" teaser pages for upcoming games, you can count me in as a cog in the great hype machine, because these games are shaping up to be truly worthy. A curious countdown for a Super Smash Brother's Brawl website, perhaps to reveal a new character, or just to launch the snazzy new site? Bethesda is doing it broody and with mood: check out their Fallout 3 Teaser Countdown. Blizzard opens the floodgates of speculation with their teaser countdown; is it Starcraft 2? World of Starcraft? Another WoW expansion? Positively spine-tingling!
Question: What do you do with your old boring Roomba and a whole lot of free time? Answer: Hack it! Yep, your little Roomba can play Frogger, fire pellets from an air gun or even go caroling!
Everyone loves Mii. No really, nobody hates a Mii. Especially when they get so creative, here's a slideshow of some impressive Miis to brighten your day.
The Last Stand is a macabre zombie...
The Last Stand is a macabre zombie defense game that will test your aiming skills as well as your strategy, as you must spend your daylight hours in the most productive way possible in order to survive the nightly onslaught of undead foes. Search for weapons and survivors or spend time reinforcing your makeshift wall. The barricade is the only thing between you and an increasing frenzy of slavering brain-hungry masses, so defend it well.
Last Stand contains scenes of extreme violence and gore, and is recommended only for a mature audience.

Just released; download the pre-alpha of the original Fallout 3 for free (If you can brave the download queue and swarm of bugs). *Note: This project has since gone under, with Bethesda Softworks taking over.
Joost, the on-demand online video service backed by the founders of Skype, announced yesterday that current Beta testers will be given an unlimited number of invites. When I tried Joost today, it worked right out of the box; the video quality is good, framerates are smooth with no playback stutter, and the interface is slick. You can fish for an invite here, or here.

Some developers see the potential for fun in their games, even when they aren't financially viable to sell anymore. Some even allow their once-retail games to be freely distributed or offer them on their own websites. Rockstar lets anyone download Grand Theft Auto 1 & 2 on their site, excellent classics that inspired the massive franchise. You can nab Savage, the Real Time Strategy Shooter. SWINE will scratch your strategy itch and Trackmania is here for the racing fans. Shooter fans can play America's Army or Multiplayer F.E.A.R. without paying a cent. Great stuff for a great price: nothin'!
George Bush sings "Sunday Bloody Sunday"? Not in a million years? Well maybe not, but it sure looks like he is. Maybe you'd get a chuckle out of Tony Blair singing "Should I Stay or Should I Go"? This careful bit of editing was possible through meticulous scrutiny of hundreds of hours of public speeches and other recorded segments.

If you're feeling crafty and little bit geekish today you can try some of the interesting experiments they have at dangerouslyfun. Build a cool spinney homopolar motor out of household items or craft yourself a boomerang, vinegar grenade or spud gun! Some of these experiments can be dangerous and should be attempted only with extreme care and/or parental supervision.
Speaking of crafty, Englishman Willard Wigan is known for creating the tiniest sculptures known to man. Some of his accomplishments include the The Last Supper inside the eye of a pin, Adam and Eve carved from the tip of a sharpened pencil and even Cassius Clay Vs Sonny Liston being dwarfed by a match head.
In more serious world news: the bees are disappearing. No really, it's bizarre. Also quite scary if you consider Einstein's predictions about what would happen to us if the bees were to give up their day jobs.
Stick RPG 2 Director's Cut is a downloadable game. You can play offline with no annoying ads, listen to the awesome soundtrack in high quality, get free exclusive updates, and use cheats.
