Commander, you are required on the front lines. Protect mankind from rampaging interstellar interlopers by defending the last remaining nuclear facility; this is Invasion - Tactical Defense.

Unbelievably not for sale yet, here's some great electroluminescent blinds for that confining cubicle or claustrophobic bathroom that you have to use everyday. They use new technology to cleverly simulate having a new window, without the fuss of smacking a hole in the wall. Sign me up.

It's true, Deus Ex 3 is in production! For anyone that missed the original: Deus Ex was one of the first great blendings of the shooter and RPG genre. The lackluster and "console-ized" sequel was a disappointment to fans, so lets all cross our fingers. Check out the Teaser Trailer.

November 21, 2007

With Mass Effect now available in stores, I can officially confirm XGen's involvement in fellow Edmonton-based studio Bioware's latest epic.

Jordan Dubuc and I had the opportunity to work internally with Bioware on the award-winning Mass Effect, an invaluable and humbling experience. We feel fortunate to have worked with a team of such talented professionals and industry veterans from within the legendary studio, on a truly ground-breaking next generation title.

If you haven't had the chance yet, check out the official Mass Effect website for trailers, screenshots, and further information. With an average rating of 93% on Gamerankings.com, you may want to do yourself a favor and pick up a copy.

November 8, 2007

March onward through time itself to conquer your ever-evolving enemy. From muskets to plasma rifles and cavemen to cyborgs; Age of War spans millennia to satisfy your deep desire to dominate.

Tesla Coils and music? Not an everyday combination, but when geeks are involved anything is possible. The Mario Brothers Theme and the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy performed on delicate, expensive laboratory equipment.

When the Japanese do wacky, you know it's going to be mind-bending fruit-salad-down-the-pants kind of wacky. Here's the most infuriating game of Tetris ever created.

November 5, 2007

Tired of your standard tank just blowing up the second the enemy peppers you with light ammunition? Try this one out; it's absolutely indestructible! Bound through the air and slam them out of the sky, Indestruc2Tank now featured at XGen!

This one is just too impressive to not share; Guitar Hero 3 -- Through the Fire and Flames -- Expert difficult. Jaw-slackening will ensue.

And just for fun: split-second photography, 5,400 frames per second of popcorn popping, and Half Life in 60 seconds.

October 29, 2007

By popular demand, we present the flash homage to Valve's new-era puzzler; Portal. Get thinking creatively and make your way through the test chambers, courtesy of Aperture Science! (The Cake is a lie!)

Resounding disappointment was felt as Super Smash Brother's Brawl was pushed back to 2008. However, as long as they keep adding content, characters and now even the ability to create your own levels; I'm perfectly fine with waiting as long as they deem necessary.

If there's any hidden meaning in Da Vinci's masterpieces, then you can now discover them online; The Last Supper is available in a crystal clear 16 Billion pixels.

Oh and Happy Halloween! Try not to have as much fun as this guy did... Or this guy... Creepy.

Techlife posted this interview on our upcoming expansion to Stick Arena, entitled "Go Ballistick". Check it out for brand new screenshots and inside information on unannounced weapons and features (including a map editor).

Oh, and for the record, Robyn refutes Danny's claim of 'Best Stick Arena player' here at XGen; Maybe they these two need to square off and settle this once and for all?

October 16, 2007

Damn it! Who let the Evil Helvian out of it's cage? Great; looks like he let the villagers out, too. Bear with us while we re-capture him and clean up this mess...

In the meantime, check out the trailer for Fez. It's a side-scrolling puzzler that allows the user to flip the world around your character in 3D, then pop back into 2D for the gameplay. Something like Paper Mario on steroids; clever.

Tattoos based on temporarily trends or floaty fascinations are rarely a good idea; here are some hideous personal regrets sprinkled with video game flavour.

Futurama is one series that was cut tragically short, although it has a large and vocal fanbase even today. Well, consider this a blow struck for internet geeks, science fiction fans and anyone with a real sense of humor; Futurama is coming back! Well, sort of. It's continuing through a series of full-length movies destined direct to DVD. Hopes are high that good sales figures may bring the show back to life, so be sure to grab a copy. Here's the trailer for the first in the series.

Sony isn't taking the lackluster response to the PS3 sitting down; they now hope to re-invigorate their ill-received console by cutting the fat. The new PS3 will have 40GB of storage (down from 60GB), 2 fewer USB ports, and zero backwards compatibility with PS2 games. Sony justifies these cuts by reducing the price point by 1/3rd. Could this be a turning point in this generation's console wars...?

Orange Box launched last night, including Half Life 2 - Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. I've been waiting eagerly for the release and found myself sucked into the devious and addictive world of Portal late last night. The gameplay centers around the ability to create and use dimensional rips that you place throughout the environment. Looking through a portal, watching yourself looking at yourself... looking at yourself... is a little bit Escher, a little bit innovative, and a little bit unnerving. Here's a Gameplay Video.
